You could tell that James and Brittany had been waiting for this wonderful wedding day for some time- I don’t think I’ve ever seen a groom with a bigger smile on his face the entire day than James. James and Brittany met through a mutual friend six years ago and here’s Brittany’s version of how James popped the question-

We planned to go to Charlotte for a basketball game for James birthday which was Saturday April 9th – we got to our hotel on Friday afternoon and went upstairs to the rooftop restaurant per James request for a drink/appetizer before the game. Little did I know he had an engagement planned and invited a small group of our closest friends to be there as well to surprise me! When we got upstairs a waitress sat us at a table and he had a slideshow of us throughout our 6 years together waiting on an ipad at the table for me to watch while he “ran to the bathroom”. When he got back the slideshow was over and he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and our friends were all there waiting and watching as well! Needless to say the basketball game that followed was quite a blur!

So sweet! We started the wedding day at the historic 701 Whaley building where Brittany getting ready.

Melanie Murphy and her team with By Invitation Only did an amazing job with the decor in the room. Brittany said she didn’t even notice when she picked her wedding pinks and greys that they would go so well with the venue but the color harmony is breathtaking! I love the little chandeliers around the dance floor and lanterns that were on the stairs that Melanie’s team put together, added a lovely hint on romance to the scene.  The flowers by American Floral were stunning!

Usually the moment Dad comes in it’s all about the bride in her dress, but I think Brittany was just as impressed with how great her Dad looked for the wedding day!  Such a sweet moment!

You can tell that James is a well put-together kind of guy.  He was dressed to the nines for the engagement session too.

I love having two photographers because Mary was able to get some amazing shots from the stairs while I (Katie) grabbed some close ups from the sides.

Since a little rain cloud started rolling in, we decided to take photos of James and Brittany in the signature 701 Whaley elevator and by the styled staircase and I’m so glad we did.  These are some of my personal favorite photos of the whole day.

As the reception party was jumping, some of the guests grabbed a handful of napkins and threw them in the air to let them rain back down on the crowd.  It really made for some fun photos!
