Thinking back on the 2016 weddings as this year is coming to a close, I have so many favorite moments that stand out in my mind.  Palmetto Duo photographed over 28 weddings all around South Carolina and even a destination wedding in Ireland (coming to the blog soon)!  I’ll try to restrain myself because I have so many favorites, but I’d like to spotlight a few of my favorite things from 2016.

For this first blog post I wanted to highlight the amazing ideas for decor, floral, DIY, venues and more, that made our 2016 weddings so amazing!  For all those planning your wedding for 2017 and beyond, I’m hoping this will give you some great ideas for your big day too!

BEST WOW DECOR OF 2016

This one was a tie for me with two very different looks.  The first one was Tammie’s vintage black and white reception at 1208 Washington Place designed by By Invitation Only wedding planners.  The venue is an old bank so it already has a lot of character, but the black and white checkerboard floor rented from Party Reflections was a real show stopper and made a great dramatic focal point for the room.  The DeLoache florist created the greenery table runners and centerpieces and Southern Way provided the snazzy plated dinner.  One of my favorite special touches was the floral uplighting by Ambient Media.  Talk about wow factor- this reception was one to remember!  See more from Tammie’s wedding here.

Another favorite memorable decor was Katie and Brandon’s custom drapery backdrop for their 701 Whaley reception.  Katie got an idea of what she wanted from pinterest and Rufus from Ambient Media made that idea come to life with a few very long strips of fabric and a chandelier!  It amazes me how such a simple concept so masterfully executed leads to this striking scene.  The stark red is especially bold against the clean white walls of the Olympia Room at 701 where the ceremony was held.  You can check out Katie’s wedding which was featured on the Wedding Colors blog here.

BEST FLORAL DESIGNS

I had a tie here too because there has been some beautiful floral designs this year!  Ashley’s flowers at 701 Whaley by Scott Jones of American Floral were sophisticated and glamorous.  Some of my favorite touches were the garland around her welcome sign and the hanging arrangement above the bar.

It was my first time working with Vicki Walker of Carolina Blossoms at Aly’s Senate’s End wedding and she did an amazing job.  The table floral arrangements and cross decorations were simple and elegant but the real show stopper were the adorable greenery crowns for the flower girls.  The clean look fit well with Aly’s intimate garden ceremony and the rustic look of the Hall’s reception area.  See more of Aly’s wedding here.

BEST THEMED WEDDING/ EVENT

Jennika and Dade’s Capital City Club wedding was close to Halloween so what better way to celebrate the holiday weekend than with a masquerade themed wedding!   See more of Jennika’s wedding here.

While it wasn’t a wedding, Melanie Murphy’s By Invitation Only Mother’s Day tea party with the Downtown Abbey theme was certainly a memorable event and a great idea for a bridal brunch or party.  Jennifer of White House Florist provided the venue and the adorable table arrangements.  See more of the tea party here.

BEST CAKE

This painted cake by Bonnie Brunt at Runqing & Yuxiao’s wedding directed by Andrea of Dazzle Events was so unique and totally fit their modern, artsy look!  See more of their wedding here.

BEST DIY

I LOVE these shoes that Amber’s bridesmaids customized for her.  What a cute and comfortable way to add some personality to your wedding outfit!  See more of Amber’s Stone River wedding here.

Lauren’s homemade brooch bouquet was one of my favorite bouquets of the year.  After she got engaged, she started collecting brooches from family members as well as from thrift and antique stores to create this personal and elegant bridal accessory.  Talk about a pinterest worthy bouquet!  See more of Lauren’s River Road and Jasmine House wedding here.

Terra and Wesley both enjoy outdoor sporting activities so a canoe bar was the perfect way to bring their personal interests into their wedding decor.  What a creative and fun idea!  See more of Terra & Wesley’s wedding here.

MOST VISITED VENUES

I’ve worked at a lot of great venues this year but the venues that I visited the most was a tie between Stone River and the River Road and Jasmine House with Senate’s End coming in a close third.  See more of my weddings from these venues below.
