2017 has been a great year for Palmetto Duo and we’ve been honored to work with so many amazing couples! It truly is a blessing that so many wonderful people have invited us to share in their special day. To ring in 2018, I thought it would be fun to highlight some of our favorite moments from the past year. There’s showstopping cakes, festive florals, stunning DYI details, heartwarming first looks and laughter and romance throughout! And that’s just the beginning. I hope you enjoy our 2017 Year in Review!
BEST WOW DECOR OF 2017
The first wedding that pops into my mind with a serious WOW decor, was Brittany & Jame’s wedding at 701 Whaley, coordinated by Melanie Murphy and her By Invitation Only team! The pink and grey color scheme that Brittany picked out for her wedding party, went perfectly with the existing rustic-urban setting of 701 Whaley. The flower accents by American Floral, especially stunning on the signature blue door, added a softer touch to the decor. There were hanging elements, taking advantage of 701 Whaley’s tall ceilings. And the candles on the staircase made the perfect romantic scene for some late evening portraits. See more from Brittany & Jame’s wedding here.
The second wedding with WOW decor went in a different direction- from subtle pastels and greys to bright and bold colors! Cricket Newman Designs took Ashley & Britton’s request for colors with some pop and created some stunning floral decor. There were hanging elements, such as colorful florals in the entryway of the Forest Lake Country Club where the reception was held, to dripping white flowers from the signature chandelier. The bold colors of the reception linens tied everything together. Ashley’s wedding was so stunning that it was chosen for the magazine cover and feature article of this season’s Carolina Bride magazine! See more from Ashley & Britton’s wedding here.
Jennifer & Michael’s wedding at the Farm at Ridgeway shows how a simple touch can make a big impact for your wedding decor. Cameron of Big Time Entertainment put up this lovely white drapery at the barn doors where the wedding party entered the ceremony. The effect was stunning! The candles and flowers were beautiful accents as well. See more of Jennifer & Michael’s wedding here.
FAVORITE COLOR SCHEMES
When you start planning a wedding, one of the first things you do is pick a color scheme. That affects the dresses, flowers, decorations, and so much of the wedding’s look. Here are two of my favorite color schemes from the past year!
Tayler chose blue and gold for her winter wedding and reception at the SC State Museum. The florals, plates, table markers, up-lighting, etc. all followed this gorgeous look. See their full wedding here.
My next favorite was the bright, apple-red color scheme at Rachel & Steven’s fall Wintergreen Woods wedding. Steven proposed to Rachel at an apple orchard so they carried that rich red color throughout their wedding day. The flowers and red bridesmaids gowns were showstoppers!
BEST WEDDING THEME
I’ve known my bride Rachel for years and she has a very creative mind. I was so excited to see her “Love is a Journey” wedding theme and how it related to so many beautiful elements on her and Brent’s wedding day! They had an antique bike in front of Senate’s End to direct the guests to outdoor ceremony in the garden. There were decorations such as globes and bikes, throughout the reception. My favorite part was the map accents on her wedding invitation. You can see more from Rachel & Brent’s wedding here.
CAKE TOPPERS
One of the really fun trends in 2017 has been to pick a cake topper that means something special to the bride and groom. Here’s a few of my favorite confectionery crowns!
The first is Brittany & Ryan’s cake topper, which actually was borrowed from Brittany’s Grandparents wedding. What a sweet way to honor your family and carry on tradition!
Corina & David got this adorable penguin topper made with their new married name from etsy!
Kristin and Chris decided to tell part of their love story with their cake topper, by representing his bike ride proposal.
In the wedding planning process, Liz put fiance, Daniel, in charge of picking whatever cake topper he liked. He found these cool golden dinosaur’s on etsy, but Liz’s mom knew that she could make them, so with a little spray paint and some cheap toys and ta da, they have DYI golden dinosaur cake toppers! What a great way to have a little fun sharing your personality with your guests. See more from Liz and Daniel’s wedding.
BEST MEN’S WEDDING FASHION
So much attention goes to the brides and their beautiful gowns that I thought it was about time to spotlight those dapper looking grooms! We had quite a few grooms this year with unique wedding style and fashion.
John’s feather bow tie by Brackish bow ties, was a real statement piece and perfect for any Southern gentleman. See more of Abbie & John’s wedding here.
James had a snappy style at both the engagement session and wedding day. I love the light grey suits and pastel tie. The watch, tie clip, all of it is in top-notch style!
Alex chose a white suit with a James Bond look for his wedding style! See more of Alex and Jenna’s 701 Whaley wedding here.
Chris & Kristin’s wedding had lots of elements of their personality throughout and you could tell that Chris had fun choosing his wedding style. From the sunflower cuff links, to the orange and blue paisley tie, to those classic brown shoes, Chris put together a solid, signature look.
Oh my! This has been a huge blog post and I have so much more to share. Stay tuned for Part 2 of the 2017 Year in Review!
